...I am glad PA repealed the mandatory helmet law...a helmet makes me look like a fool when I ride...

Ha, sarcasm at its best.

the other half of the trick is to fall off the bike (with no helmet on), hit your head, and then die.... not a very good trick :(

...I look at helmet use kind of like seat belt use, if you (or the person steering) are not in complete control of the placement of the vehicle you are in, then they absolutly should be used, the argument that someone will hit you don't wash with me, if you let someone hit you (lack of your control of your vehicle) then you need them...

Sorry, but I disagree with your statement tthunderdan. You could be an experianced rider and still take a nasty spill when something unexpected happens. Case in point...I've been riding bikes for over 20 years and consider myself experianced. One day while traveling at 40 mph, a car that was "parked" on the side of the road decided to do a quick U turn not more that 30 feet in front of me. I had a full second or two to react to my path being completely blocked off. There was no way anyone could have stopped in time to avoid the car. Needless to say, I impacted the car broadside and was thrown over the car onto the street many feet down the road. It happened so fast that I didn't even relize that my head impacted the edge of the cars roof cracking the $400 full face helmet. I suffered no head injuries but my one leg was torn up pretty badly from the bike crushing it against the car. If I wasn't wearing that top dollar helmet, you might not see any of my drawings on this site because I probably wouldn't be alive. My leg still bothers me years later but I can live with a slight limp every once and a while. I could tell you the story about the deer that ran up an embankment onto the road killing an experianced rider but I think I've made my point. I would also like to add that I'm not pro anything as far as helmets or seatbelts are concerned. It's just that you can never plan for the unexpected.

I agree with sheep, I only started riding the sportser (already dropped it once),and it is scary as shit cus people in cars dont seem to see bikes. Tt seems once a month I hear about someone biting while riding, last year a guy died near where I live, he some how fell of the bike, he rolled just right and would have survived but then a car hit him. You never know what can happen on two wheels.

...the animals are a hard one, especially at nite, I hardly ever motorbike at nite...I am probably just being an opinionated A-hole because I hear of and drive by accidents and you just have to wonder what people were doing or thinking when that happened, certainly not thinking about their drving/riding...and aren't you looking for people sitting in that parked car on the side of the road anticipating them doing something 'accidental'?... and I know hind sight is 20-20 but I bet that will never happen again to you...and you have to, you must assume the cars and trucks do not see you...listen to me go on, one day last week I hopped in my '96 Lumina (our nice car) and didn't look behind before backing and caught the front bumper of my sons '85 New Yorker and tore the whole plastic front end of the Lumina...if that don't make you feel like an ass...again, what was I thinking...belts and helmets are good thing I guess...for those moments we all have...

If you have that plastic in your pocket it means your a pro-driver and you should obey all laws. Ok, now I sound like my truck driving trainer.

You wanna hear a good one? Im riding Down the road the other night and feel 2 sharp hits on my back, I check my back when I got home and find that the car behind me had fired 2 B.B.s at me. The passenger must have reached out the window and fired at me. Im glad I had my brain bucket on. Had those been bullets the helmet would have made no difference.
